A group of teenagers from Sapulpa, Oklahoma rescued their 90-year-old neighbor after her house caught fire.
Catherine Richie was in here bathroom when she found out her bed caught on fire. She attempted to put out the flames, but gave up and had to call 911.
She tried to escape but was unable to see through the thick smoke from the fire. Four teenagers were passing by her house and noticed the smoke, so they decided to do something to help their neighbor.
One of them went to get help while the others tried to get inside the house to help Catherine escape. Seth Byrd managed to get into the house and found Catherine in the hallway. He carried her out to safety.
One of Catherine’s children Missy Nicholas wrote a post thanking the young boys for saving her life. Missy wrote “Kids who are told about all the things they aren’t old enough to do saved the life of the most precious and beloved woman we know. Young men who risked their own lives, their own safety, perhaps their good standing with their parents who might have chosen for them to do otherwise, and they carried my mother out of her burning home into the street, where fire trucks and ambulances would soon arrive. Thank you for your selfless acts of heroism and courage.”
