Two years ago, a German shepherd named Cedar was allegedly stolen from her family in Southwest Ranches, Florida. The dognapper stole Cedar who was only a 4 month old pup at the time, but left the family’s three other pups behind.
The Petersons spent countless hours searching for their pup, but there were no traces of where she could have gone.
This month, though, she was found thousands of miles away in Colorado. According to the Miami Herald, Cedar was by a county marshal, injured and cold inside of a snowy ditch.
According to the Herald, Deputy Marshal Steve Ryan said “the dog was actually snow covered, so I passed it twice — didn’t even see it. She actually wouldn’t get up, so I had to pick her up and put her in my car. She was wet [and] appeared to be malnourished.”
Peterson told the Herald she was breaking down in tears when she learned that they found Cedar.
“I couldn’t believe it. I was in shock. It’s almost two years to the day.”Peterson
Cedar was sent back to her owners in Florida on Saturday by Wings of Rescue, an animal charity that helps pets get out of overcrowded shelters. How she got to Colorado, and who took her, is a complete mystery.
The Petersons family is happy to have their dog Cedar back, and she is certainly glad to be reunited with her family once again.
