Jordan Peele’s new horror film, “Us”, is already one of the biggest debuts in 2019, bringing in an estimated $67 million from over 3500 locations in North America.
“Us” is on track to smash records for highest debut for an original horror movie, largest debut for an R-rated movie, second-highest debut of 2019, and third highest opening day for a horror film (with $29 million). This debut beats analyst estimates that put “Us” in the $30-$50 million range.
Peele’s last film, “Get Out”, debuted at $33 million in 2017 and totaled about $167 million in the US. His latest film has already outdone his last and is already on track to double sales from “Get Out.”
Us is a sci-fi psychological horror film, starring Lupita Nyong’o, Winston Duke, Elisabeth Moss, and Tim Heidecker. It follows a family that’s confronted with a group of doppelgangers.
