Guide Dogs Lead Blind Man To Historic Half-Marathon Finish

Thomas Panek, 48, became the world’s first blind person to complete a marathon with the help of his three guide dogs.

Panek, president and CEO of Guiding Eyes for the Blind, finished the 13 mile race in just under 2 hours and 21 minutes alongside his three labrador retriever guide dogs, Westley, Waffle, and Gus.

Panek is no stranger to marathons, having complete 20 with the help of volunteers. He wanted to be able to run without the assistance of humans, which led him to start a training program for running guide dogs through his company.

Panek says he hopes his feat will inspire other people with disabilities to achieve great things in life.
