Uber’s new program aims to allow passengers to bring their pets along for the ride. Named UberPET, the program is aiming to roll out to select cities in the United States on October 16th, 2019.
The cities launching this program are Austin, Denver, Minneapolis, Nashville, Philadelphia, Phoenix, and Tampa Bay.
Prior to this program, bringing your pet along for the Uber ride was only allowed if the driver gave you the green light. This made Uber’s whole service a little frustrating and time consuming for pet-owners.
To solve this issue for Uber customers with pets, Uber has a new feature where you can choose a pet-friendly driver for a fee. It looks like the surcharge will be around $3 to $5, which will mostly be given to the drivers.
Some drivers don’t want to deal with cleaning up pet fur clean-up, and some may even be straight up allergic to certain pets. These drivers can easily choose to opt-out of being pet-friendly in the driver app.
Uber’s service animal policy remains unchanged, with their policy being, in accordance to state and federal law, that service animals are allowed to ride at no additional cost.
If you live in any of the cities above, be on the lookout for the new feature on Uber’s app starting tomorrow.
